Costs for Smaller Projects

If you’re wondering what it might cost to just replace your shower or install a new vanity and countertop we’ve included some of those costs at the bottom of the page as well.

About Our Good Better Best Budgets

Bathroom remodeling costs are displayed in a Good, Better, Best format so you’ll see three prices for each kitchen. The scope of work for each version is the same, what changes is the cost of the cabinets and fixtures included. Higher cost cabinets offer a lot more design and organizer options. Beneath each table you will find a link to the complete Good Better Best budget if you would like to see even more detail.

What’s Included? (aka Scope Of Work)

The scope of work included in the prices below includes what we call a “gut renovation”.  That is where all the cabinets, fixtures and flooring are removed and new materials installed.

It also includes all design work, permits, jobsite cleanup, debris removal and daily supervision of the project. It can include minor layout changes but no moving of walls, lighting or plumbing. Cost to re-install the existing appliances is included, but no new appliances.

What About Layout Changes?

If you want to move plumbing, electric or move walls as part of your bathroom remodel you can expect the cost of the remodeling to Increase by at least 10 to 20%. Relocating your plumbing is the most expensive layout change, especially if your home is on a concrete slab, as many are in Tallahassee.

How Long Will It Take?

A hall bathroom remodel takes 3 to 4 weeks to complete. A master bath can take 6 to 8 weeks. Powder rooms take 1 to 2 weeks.

What About Just a New Shower?

Updating a shower seems simple at first glance. But to do it properly means demoing the shower down to the studs and subfloor, replacing the drain, replacing the shower valve, waterproofing the walls and shower pan and finally tiling the shower.

Cost to retile a tub surround and refinish the tub: $6000 – $8000

Time: about 1 week The cost listed above includes removing the tile and backer above the tub, installing a new waterproofing system on the walls and replacing the tile above the tub it also includes replacing tub filler, shower valve and tub waste and overflow. We’ve also included the cost to refinish the existing tub. If you want to replace the tub entirely that would increase the cost  another $1500 – $2000.

Cost to retile a hall bathroom shower: $10,000 – $15,000

This would include removing the existing tile and backer, adding a recessed niche, replacing the shower valve and shower drain, waterproofing the shower walls and pan, re-tiling the shower and installing a frameless glass enclosure. If you’d like to create a barrier free shower then add $500 to $1000.

Costs for Vanities and Countertops

An easy way to update a bathroom is to replace the vanity and countertop. This can be done inexpensively with an All-in-One vanity (where the cabinet, counter and sink all come in one box ready to install) or you can go with a custom vanity and countertop.

All-In-One Vanities: $1500 – $4000

All-in-One vanities are great but the quality of them varies significantly. We only install all-in-ones from vendors we know and trust. The other limitation to all-in-one vanities is size and style options. You’ll be limited in color choices and countertop material options. All-in-One vanities only come in sizes up to 60 inches.

Semi Custom Vanity: $2500 – $7500

A semi custom vanity is designed and ordered to fit your space and offers a lot of color and door style options as well as opportunities to add custom organizers like docking drawers. You will also need to order a countertop and sink, which can cost another $1000 to $4500 depending on the size of the vanity.

Countertop Costs

Corian countertops start at around $45 a sq ft and can reach $60 a sq ft for some colors. Granite countertops can cost $45-$110 a sq ft depending on the color Quartz countertops range from $75 to $110 a sq ft.
