When Does Kitchen Cabinet Refacing Make The Most Sense?

Kitchen cabinet refacing is a great choice in some circumstances. Other times a full remodel might make more sense.

Benefits of Refacing

Refacing is faster

We can completely reface a kitchen in 7-10 days, vs 5 weeks or more for a full remodel

Cabinet Refacing is less disruptive

Because your cabinets, counters and appliances stay in place you can keep using your kitchen during the project.

You can make modifications

We can add drawers and pullouts, extend cabinets and more.

Refacing is a great choice if you love the layout of your kitchen and love your countertops, backsplash etc… but the cabinets are old and worn. But if you need to change more than just the cabinets, a full kitchen remodel might be better.

When To Consider a Remodel

If you want new countertops, backsplash, lighting etc… in addition to updated cabinets then a full kitchen remodel starts to make more sense.

If you are struggling with an outdated kitchen and want help deciding if a full remodel or kitchen cabinet refacing is best for your needs scheduling a free phone consult is the right first step.

The cost of refacing is similar to the cost of new cabinets

Refacing is not cheap. It costs less than a full remodel because we are not doing a full demo, changing counters, sinks, backsplash etc… Not because the cabinet materials are cheaper.

Refacing won’t fix a bad layout

If you lack storage and counter space or have layout issues refacing is not the best choice.

Consider upgrading your drawer boxes and glides

New doors and drawer fronts are beautiful but if your drawer hardware is worn out the kitchen still won’t feel like new. But this does add costs and makes a remodel even more attractive.

How is Kitchen Cabinet Refacing Done?

There are a couple of ways to do kitchen cabinet refacing. One is with site finished materials. The other with factory finished materials.

In Tallahassee are two companies that focus on cabinet refacing.

McManus Kitchen and Bath (Us). Our approach is to order high quality doors, drawer fronts, trims and panels that are factory finished and then custom install them on site.

This provides the highest quality finish. We also upgrade your hinges to top quality Blum Cliptop hinges and you have the option of upgrading your drawer glides as well.

If you want modifications made to your cabinets before we reface them we can do that too. We can add an island, extend cabinets and convert door base cabinets to drawers. Once we reface the kitchen everything will look like new.

CB Painting and Renovations Their approach is different. They order new doors and drawers, unfinished. Then they paint your cabinets… doors, drawers, boxes and trim…. all at once on site.

This system costs less but the finish is a little less durable and it’s a little glossier than factory finished cabinets. CB painting and Renovation does not modify cabinets or add new drawer boxes.

Depending on your needs and your budget both options are a good choice.

What Does It Cost?

Cabinet refacing costs can vary a lot depending on the size of the kitchen and what modifications need to be made. On average, a mid sized kitchen in Tallahassee costs $25,000 – $35,000 to reface.
