Help improve the lives of our clients by providing great design, quality workmanship and a worry free remodeling experience.

I wanted to be an architect since I was in middle school in Barre, VT. First I wanted to be an auto mechanic with my buddy Brent, then an architect (which Brent was not interested in).
We moved to Florida when I was in High School and I went to architecture school at the University of Florida.
Then two things happened. I discovered that architects didn’t do what I thought they did and I started working for a painting contractor on weekends.
In 6 months I had started my own painting company, I loved working with my hands and the immediacy of the results of my work. The money was good too 😆. I left architecture after 3 years and focused on a degree in economics to get out of school quickly.
I tried working for two different companies out of school and hated it. In 1998 I restarted the painting company, named PJM Painting, which became a handyman business and then sub contracting for general contractors.
I attended trade schools all over the country learning different specialties. I was still very interested in design but I wanted to build what I dreamed up with my own hands.

In 2002 I took a hiatus and joined the Peace Corps in Zambia where I worked on water and sanitation projects. This was an eye opening experience. I returned to the states in 2004, hiked the Appalachian Trail from Maine to GA and returned to Tallahassee to restart the business as McManus Renovation.
I got my residential contractors license and started focusing on kitchen and bath remodels. Like most contractors I relied on outside designers and suppliers. I noticed the designs were not always ideal and the material selections were limited but I felt there was not much to be done about it.
Cycling had become a passion of mine and in 2008 I went to work for a bicycle tour company guiding 3-4 month long cross continental bike tours. That job would take me to 35 different countries over six years.
Between tours I would continue to do kitchen and bath remodels and I started to get frustrated at the delays that would occur when suppliers made mistakes or forgot to place an order.
In 2015 I started McManus Kitchen and Bath with the sole focus of providing the best possible design and material options possible. From my travels I’d seen lots of possibilities and my understanding of design and construction had evolved significantly.
In 2016 I was invited to attend a conference of kitchen and bath companies and through networking and attending sessions came to the conclusion I needed my own showroom and designers if I wanted to make my vision a reality.
It’s taken a lot of work over the years but our design build model has finally allowed us to provide the level of service and quality of design & construction I’ve dreamed of since those days back in middle school.

McManus Kitchen and Bath is a boutique design build remodeling company specializing in kitchen, bath and whole home remodels and additions.
Our goal is to provide great design, a high level of service and quality construction to homeowners in Tallahassee who are interested in investing in their home for the long term.
We want to see a world where homes are built to last for hundreds of years and are built in a way that makes them comfortable and accessible for people of all ages and ability with durable, sustainable materials that are easy to maintain, upgrade and replace.
By thinking about long term value, durability and adaptability we can design and build whole neighborhoods that will stand the test of time.
The role we play in realizing that vision is simple. Help improve the lives of our clients by providing great design, quality workmanship and a worry free remodeling experience.
This means providing training for our staff and trade partners, sourcing quality materials and a focus on planning and project management.
We are also active in local building and government groups so we can learn from and share ideas with our peers.
These three tenets inform our decision making when it comes to how we treat each other and serve our clients.

With every interaction we either build or lose trust. Trust is built by doing what you promise and communicating quickly if you can not.
Trust requires good communication and setting clear expectations. Then working to exceed them whenever possible.
Trust means treating clients, employees, vendors and subcontractors as partners and developing long term relationships that are mutually beneficial.

Continuous improvement, getting a little better every day with intention is an important part of a fulfilling career and providing an excellent product or service.
Professionals seek to improve at all aspects of their work including cross training to work better with fellow staff and understanding how you can support them better.
Through a combination of outside training, in house training and self directed learning we are constantly working to improve ourselves and become more expert in our roles at McManus Kitchen and Bath.

The experience of a remodel is just as important as the end result. Great communication and planning are cornerstones of our process.
To provide a remarkable experience we must first define expectations. This is done throughout the sales, design and production process with the client and our trade partners. Only when expectations are agreed upon can we aim to exceed them.
