Wonderful Backsplash Choice in Killearn Kitchen Remodel – $46,500

This project was one of the larger kitchens we’ve been asked to reface. Not only was the kitchen itself quite big they also wanted quite a few modifications. So the cost of the project was quite high, roughly twice what a typical refacing project costs.

In fact we could have done all new cabinets for several thousand dollars less. So why did they chose to reface? Because it’s less disruptive. Our client didn’t want to deal with not having a kitchen for 6 weeks or more and the loved the current layout of their kitchen.

Refacing allowed us to make some modification, like adding a new wine rack, new drawer boxes and glass doors but the project took only two weeks instead of 6 and the kitchen remained functional throughout the project.

Prior to refacing the kitchen we arranged to have their new granite countertops installed by Southern Tops, our very favorite stone fabricator in Tallahassee.

Time to Complete:

About two weeks for the refacing. The countertops were installed prior to refacing and the backsplash tile took just one day and was installed after the refacing was complete.

This project went pretty smooth. We did have a few small issues. One of the large pantry doors arrived with a crack in it. We reordered the door and installed it a couple of weeks after the project was complete (the doors are custom made so they take 3-4 weeks to produce).

We originally ordered Crema Marfil Marble for the backsplash but ultimately switched to a porcelain tile that looked like Crema Marfil. The color variation in the marble was too much for the clients liking. We now have several samples of the Crema Marfil in the showroom so the variation in color can be demonstrated more clearly.

We also installed a new wine rack but it was not large enough for their magnum wine bottles. So we had a custom rack made and finished to match the cabinet color. Next time we’ll be sure to check the bottle size first! You can see the wine rack at the end of the island.

The biggest success of course is that our clients love it!  They made some very nice selections and everything really goes well together and reflects their personal style. The quartz the choose is gorgeous and the linen colored doors with chocolate glaze complement the countertops nicely. I also think the pattern glass in the cabinet doors really makes a big impact.

We also reconfigured the cabinets a little. Adding some drawers for better storage and full height cabinet doors instead of a shorter door and false drawer front. It was a great project and you couldn’t ask to work for two nicer people.

Our Team:

Cabinet refacing seems simple of the surface but like many things the devil is in the details. It starts with good design and selections, followed by very accurate measurements for the custom doors and drawer fronts. Then you need a great team to make sure the installation goes well.

  • Our refacing supplier is Cabinet Cures out of Portland Oregon
  • The BLUM soft close hinges, solid wood drawer boxes and soft close drawer glides are from Hardware Resources and Richelieu
  • Our Installer is Will Murrane of Murrane Improvements
  • The countertops were done by Tim Peachey of Southern Tops
  • The backsplash tile was installed by Tien Le Tile
