Project Overview

This remodel was for a wonderful couple who had not updated their home in about 25 years. They were getting ready to retire and had been searching for a new home to move into. However they could not find a home that met their needs in a neighborhood that was close to town (restaurants, hospitals, doctors etc…). So they decided to remodel their existing home instead

Whole Home Remodel Scope of Work

  • Gut renovation of master bath
  • Gut renovation of kitchen, including removing several walls
  • Gut renovation of Powder Room
  • Move laundry room upstairs
  • Whole house flooring
  • Whole house painting

Complications and Solutions

Unfortunately this project was delayed after demo due to an engineering problem. We had the plans approved by Growth Management but when the inspector arrived he wanted an engineer to sign off on the beam we were installing for a load bearing wall. We quickly called our engineer but it took a week to get the sign off and another 2 weeks for Growth Management to approve it.

There was not much to be done except wait for the new approved plans. We now sit down with the planners before plans are submitted if we feel there may be any issues so we can avoid delays like that in the future.

Favorite Upgrades

Deako Smart Lighting

We met Deako at the Southeast Builders Conference. They’ve created a set of smart switches that you can easily plug in or remove from the wall. What’s great about that is it gives you flexibility in your smart lighting layout and you can change the layout very easily in the the future. Deako switches work with all smartphones, Alexa and Google Home.

Toe Kick Drawer

We installed this Toe Kick Drawer on the back of the island. It has a touch to open latch so it can be opened with a nudge of your foot. They wanted to use it for their small puppies feeding bowl.
